Youth

The Maine B.A.S.S. Federation Nation has a long history of involvement with youth. Fishing derbies, CastingKids, charity fund raisers, Hooked on Fishing, not on Drugs events, Boy Scout merit programs, the Junior Bassmaster program and the simple act of taking time to take a child fishing are only a few of the many ways the Maine B.A.S.S. Federation Nation is involved with youth each year. This section of the web site was created to highlight recent and upcoming events and provide information about youth programs and activities. We hope you enjoy the articles, photos and information. If you have any articles, photos, or any ideas how to make this page even better - please drop us a line. Thanks, Eric Kuehne, Youth Director Maine B.A.S.S. Federation Nation.

Top Junior AnglersThe Maine Junior Bassmaster State Championship is open only to members of Junior Bassmaster chapters affiliated with the Maine B.A.S.S. Federation Nation. All youth must have obtained age of 11 years but not yet 19 years as of Dec 31, current year to compete. All entry forms must be completed & received by the Youth Director on or before the deadline date in order to be eligible to compete.

The top angler in the 11-14 age group and the top angler in the 15-18 age group will become the Maine Junior Bassmaster State Champions and will be eligible to participate at the Junior Bassmaster Eastern Divisional. This tournament will be a “boat” tournament. Two contestants will be paired at random with a “boat captain” who will be there only to operate the boat – the boat captain does not fish or help the contestants.

The tournament will be five hours long. Contestants will need to be able to tie their own knots, cast, reel in fish, and remove fish from the hook. Contestants will need to have a life jacket and their own fishing tackle.

Contestants will tell the boat captain where they want to fish, and the boat captain will take them there and operate the trolling motor while they fish. Contestants will get equal time for fishing their spots.
