Best Fishing Story: There are so many great stories, most of which were with my father fishing from our 1913 Old Town canoe on the Presumpscott river as a kid or catching 180 pound tarpon in Boca Grand or even a sailfish from my 18' Boston Whaler on Thanksgiving day of 2006, six miles off Key Largo. However, my favorite Bass story took place in 1985. I was 15 years old and was spending two weeks at Friends Camp on China Lake. During swim time at the camp I would snorkel around while the other kids were splashing and having fun. One day I saw what I thought were giant bass congregating under the floating dock. The very next morning I snuck quietly down to the waterfront before any of the other campers were awake. I tied on my big hula popper with a red skirt (they were popular back then). I crept quietly onto the dock, stopped at the edge and cast my little Daiwa perfectly so that popper smacked the edge of the floating dock. The water was like glass, mist was rising and the air was brisk. I didn't do a thing, I just kept watching that hula popper until it quietly seemed to slip under the surface and WHAM! All hell broke lose and I wound up with my first 5 pounder.
