Trickey Pond Clean Up, a success!

Photos l Camerons Web site:

On Saturday Sept 6 Cameron Patterson a Boy Scout working on his Eagle project organized a clean up on Trickey Pond. The day was spent gathering litter from the pond.

The Maine Warden Service was there to help with diving, and members of the Maine B.A.S.S. Nation were also on hand as were other volunteers. Cameron was also involved in installing a Recycling Container to help with the recycling of soft plastic lures.

The Maine B.A.S.S. Nation has been installing these recycling tubes for a few years now throughout Maine with positive results which have been improving each year. The tubes are out there around Maine's lake, ponds, and rivers and we need to make sure they are visible to people as well as making sure people are educated on the use of these tubes.

Winslow Boy Scout Aims For Honor Not Bestowed In Maine In 72 Years

A Boy Scout from Troop 433 in Winslow is spearheading an effort to clean up Maine’s lakes and earn a prestigious award that hasn’t been given out in Maine in more than 70 years. Cameron Patterson is about to become an Eagle Scout, quite an accomplishment for a 15 year-old. But Cameron Patterson is not your ordinary teenager. A bout with bacterial meningitis almost took his life when he was younger and now he says he uses scouting to prove that nothing in life is impossible. When his scoutmaster challenged him to qualify for the William T. Hornaday Award in addition to his Eagle Scout, he jumped in with both feet. Read article

Central Maine lakes draw Major League Fishing anglers for tournament

CHINA — The biggest names in fishing, and the roughly 100-person-strong television production team that follows their every move and later broadcasts the action on national cable and network television, plied the waters of central Maine for bass over the last several days. Major League Fishing brought 30 of the nation’s elite competitive anglers to the area to fish Long Pond, Great Pond, Messalonskee Lake and China Lake. However, in the league’s unique format, none of the anglers knew what bodies of water they were fishing until the morning of each fishing day, so they wouldn’t have time to research the best places to fish. Ban on Plastic Baits, we need to educate the public

Report on Plastic Lures - Presented By: Dana DeGraaf – Fisheries Biologist, IFW

Ban of soft baits in Maine hearing on 2/28, basically it looks like we're looking at pushing the education and collection/recycling of used plastic baits since it is more of a littering problem as the report states. Report stated that bass tournament water bodies were not the problem.

The report favored the plastic recycling program the Maine B.A.S.S. Nation's has been involved in over the last few years. The Maine B.A.S.S. Nation will continue to work in leading the way to educate the public and move forward with our recycling efforts as we have been doing.
